Born 8 October 1960 in Bilthoven.
1980 Grammar School
Pre-university exams.
1981-1984 Three
year course at the International "Welsh
School of Musical Instrument Making and Repair" under
the guidance of Mrs. Miranda Green, Mr. Terry Mc.Cool
and Mr. Malcolm Siddall.
The course was completed with merit.
Practical work experience at
the English bow maker Mr. Garner Wilson. (ex W.E.Hill & Sons)
1984-1985 Worked
for one year at "Contrada Musica" in
Amersfoort, the Netherlands where I furthered my skills
under the violin maker Mr. Joost van der Grinten in
the repair of stringed instruments and bows.
1985-1988 Worked
for three years for Mr. Roland Baumgartner, violin
maker and expert in Basel, Switzerland where
I specialised in repair and restoration techniques.
I also studied antique and modern stringed instruments
and bows intensely.
1989-1990 After
a short period of being self-employed I looked after
the workshop and shop of
Mr. Fred Lindeman,
maker and restorer in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, for
half a year.
1990-1992 For over
two years I specialised in the making of new stringed
instruments under the violin
maker Maestro Pier Angelo Balzarini in Cremona,
Italy.
1993- Return to
Bilthoven where I am self-employed and, in addition
to repairs, restoration, rehairing
and repairing bows, rental service and selling of strings
and accessories, concentrate on making new violins,
violas and cellos. At the same time I offer a selection
of new and used instruments and bows, part exchange,
advice service and mediation.
1993-1999 Took part in the
yearly summer academy in Riva, Italy and Ascona,
Switzerland, under the guidance
of the violin maker Mr. Jürgen von Stietencron.
2001-2002 Decision to spend 75% of my time on making
violins, violas and cellos.
2002- Decision to concentrate mainly on making violins,
violas and cellos.
